NJ/NY Gotham FC takes on the Chicago Red Stars in the first road trip of the 2021 NWSL regular season on Saturday, May 22 at SeatGeek Stadium. Presented to Gotham FC fans by OXIGEN, the match will be streamed on Paramount+ (U.S) and Twitch (international) with kickoff set for 8:00 p.m. E.T.

Gotham FC earned a 1-0 victory last Saturday night at Red Bull Arena over the Houston Dash in a physical battle that saw a total of six yellow cards handed out. Midge Purce scored the lone goal of the night in the 30th minute on a low driven strike far post to give Gotham FC the early lead. Purce has now been directly involved in six of the team’s last twelve goals (4 goals, 2 assists) and her recent performance earned her NWSL Player of the Week honors. Despite some threatening bursts of offense and gifted opportunities that Houston couldn’t capitalize on, Gotham FC was able to close out the game behind a strong performance in goal from Kailen Sheridan in her first game back from injury. With the win, the team remains unbeaten, with the exception of penalty shootouts, in the last seven matches dating back to the Fall Series. It ties the team’s previous stretch from 2014-2015.

The Chicago Red Stars are looking to bounce back from a 5-0 loss on the road against the Portland Thorns. After going 0-2-2 and finishing fourth in the West Division in the 2021 Challenge Cup, Chicago is still finding their form on the pitch early in the season. Despite the slow start, the Red Stars have played well at home as of late, registering only one loss in the last eight NWSL competitions at SeatGeek Stadium since September 2019. While Gotham FC won the last match up in the Fall Series 3-1 at Montclair State University Soccer Park, the overall head-to-head match-up heavily favors the Red Stars with Gotham FC only winning one match in the last ten visits to Chicago and three total all time. The Red Stars will be without their veteran defender Julie Ertz who is out with a right knee injury.

After this road trip, Gotham FC returns to Red Bull Arena for two consecutive home matches. A rematch of the 2021 Challenge Cup Final against the Portland Thorns takes place on Sunday, May 30 at 3:00 p.m. ET and will be a celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage. A short week later on Saturday, June 5, Gotham FC will take on the visiting OL Reign at 7:00 p.m. ET. Single, group and season ticket memberships are now on sale and pricing details can be found here.
