NJ/NY Gotham FC remains home at Red Bull Arena on Saturday, September 4, to take on the visiting Chicago Red Stars on Latinx Night. The team begins its journey under the new leadership of Scott Parkinson, formerly of the Chicago Red Stars, and longtime National Women’s Soccer Player player Beverly “Bev” Goebel Yanez. They join current Assistant Coach Becki Tweed and Goalkeeper Coach Daniel Ball on the staff. The match will be presented to Gotham FC fans by NJM. The action kicks off at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed on Paramount+ (U.S.) and Twitch (international).

Gotham FC closed out the Freya Coombe era last Sunday with a tough 0-1 loss at home against the Orlando Pride. Despite a dominant possession game for Gotham FC, an early second half goal from Erika Tymrak from outside the box proved to be the difference in the game.

Budweiser Player of the Match Nahomi Kawasumi was instrumental in exploiting key spaces and maintaining possession for Gotham FC. She finished the night with a 90% passing accuracy overall and a 91% passing accuracy in the opponent’s half of the field.

The Chicago Red Stars enter Saturday’s match after a dominant 3-0 win over Kansas City. Former Gotham FC (then Sky Blue FC) captain Sarah Woldmoe recorded her second career brace, scoring in the 35th and 62nd minute of the match. In the closing ten minutes of regulation, Katie Johson found the back of the net for the final goal of the match to put an exclamation point on the win.

This will be the third and final game between these two teams of the regular season. The last time they faced off was on July 25 at Red Bull Arena. The game ended in a 2-1 victory for Gotham FC with goals from Allie Long and Margaret “Midge” Purce. A late goal from Makenzy Doniak in the dying seconds of the match put Chicago on the scoreboard and spoiled the shutout.

Following Saturday’s match, Gotham FC enters a three week break and will not play again until Saturday, September 25 against the North Carolina Courage at Red Bull Arena. Gotham FC’s match originally scheduled for next week against Kansas City at Legends Field was rescheduled to Friday, October 22 at 8:00 p.m. ET due to a venue conflict. Single and group tickets are on sale and pricing details can be found
