NJ/NY Gotham FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced today that forward Carli Lloyd has been called up for the U.S. Women’s National Team matches against Paraguay in September in Cleveland and Cincinnati, Ohio. These matches will be the first since the Tokyo Olympics.

On August 16, the two-time World Cup Champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and two-time FIFA Player of the Year officially announced her retirement from soccer following a slate of USWNT fall friendlies and the conclusion of the NWSL season. Lloyd currently ranks second in international appearances behind Kristine Lilly with 312 and is tied for fifth with Germany’s Birgit Prinz in international goals with 128.

The USA will take on Paraguay on Thursday, Sept. 16 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio (7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2) and then again on Tuesday, Sept. 21 during the first-ever U.S. Soccer match at FC Cincinnati’s newly opened TQL Stadium (7:30 p.m. ET on FS1 & TUDN).
