HARRISON, N.J. – NJ/NY Gotham FC will look to bounce back in its return from the international break when they host the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday, July 2 at 7 p.m. at Red Bull Arena. The match will mark the final competition for defender Gina Lewandowski, who announced her retirement from professional soccer in June.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Prior to last season’s 1-0 loss to Chicago in the playoffs, Gotham FC was unbeaten in all NWSL competitions against the Red Stars with two wins and two draws, their longest streak in the fixture.

This season, Gotham FC has won every game in which it has scored and lost every game when allowing a goal making it the only team this season to either shut out its opponents or be shut out in every game.

Meantime, the Red Stars are unbeaten in seven straight games following their only loss of the season against San Diego in May. The last time the Red Stars were unbeaten in eight straight was from April to June in 2016.

REINFORCEMENTS ON THE WAY

NJ/NY Gotham FC has claimed defender Taylor Smith off waivers and signed forward Jenna Bike and Amanda Visco to National Team Replacement Player contracts

Smith was previously with the North Carolina Courage, where she made four appearances and two starts during the 2022 regular season.

Smith, 28, is a seven-year veteran of the NWSL with two stops with the WNY Flash/North Carolina as well as a two-year stint with OL Reign (2019-20). She helped the Flash win the 2016 NWSL Championship as a rookie and has tallied two goals and four assists throughout her career. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Smith earned call-ups to the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2017-18, earning 10 caps.

Bike and Visco to sign ahead of the upcoming international window in June. Gotham FC currently has four players representing their countries during the July World Cup qualifiers.

GOTHAM FC SUMMER 2022 WORLD TOUR

NJ/NY Gotham FC has five players that have been selected for international duty for the upcoming window at the end of June and July.

Midfielder Kristie Mewis and forward Midge Purce will be with the USWNT for this summer’s upcoming June friendlies against Colombia and the CONCACAF Women’s Championship.

Ifeoma Onumonu (Nigeria) and Estelle Johnson (Cameroon) are slated to represent their countries at the Africa Cup of Nations Tournament in July.

Additionally, Taryn Torres was tabbed for the USWYNT U-23 team for a pair of friendlies in Sweden against India and the host Swedes at the end of June.
