NJ/NY Gotham FC Travels to Houston

HOUSTON, TX – NJ/NY Gotham FC hope a quick turnaround can help them get back on track when they travel to Houston to play the Dash on Wednesday after playing at Seattle on Sunday.  The game is set to kick off at PNC Stadium at 8:30 p.m. and will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Taylor Smith netted her second goal of the season off an assist from Ifeoma Onumonu, her second assist this season In the lone goal of the game for Gotham FC against OL Reign on Sunday. The goal brought Smith and Onumonu to three goal contributions each on the season, tied for second on the team behind Midge Purce’s five (3 goals, 2 assists).

MEWIS JOINS 150 CAPS CLUB

Kristie Mewis made her 150th appearance when Gotham FC played OL Reign on August 14. She is 11th all-time in NWSL history, trailing teammate defender Ali Kreiger, who is 10th all-time with 159 caps.

INTRODUCING INTERIM COACH MENZIES

NJ/NY Gotham FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) today announced that Hue Menzies will serve as interim Head Coach for the remainder of the 2022 season.

Menzies won the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Coach of the Year award after helping the Jamaican Women’s National Team qualify for the 2019 Women’s World Cup, the country’s first-ever Women’s World Cup appearance. The holder of a U.S. Soccer A-License, Menzies currently serves as a member of the Concacaf Technical Study Group and the U.S. Club Soccer Board of Directors.

Menzies, who becomes the first Black head coach in NWSL history, brings 35-plus years of coaching experience to Gotham FC. He has served as the Executive Director of Florida Kraze Krush for the last 10 years and spent five years as the head coach of Jamaica’s Women’s National Team. He was a co-founder and director for the Lonestar Soccer Association in Austin, Texas and an Olympic Development Coach at the national, state and regional level for 15 years. He also served as an assistant coach for the University of Texas’s women’s soccer team.
