HARRISON, N.J. – NJ/NY Gotham FC hits the road to take on the Washington Spirit this Saturday at Audi Field. Coming off a three-game home stand at Red Bull Arena, the NJ/NY side will hope that the change of scenery will create a change in results. The match is set to kick-off at 7:00 p.m. ET.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Defending NWSL champion Washington recently snapped their own 16-game winless streak in a 4-3 victory against the San Diego Wave. Gotham FC will look to emulate that, as their winless streak reached nine after Sunday’s match against Kansas City. The two teams find themselves towards the bottom of the league table this year, after both making the playoffs in 2021.

REPRESENTING NJ/NY

Goalkeeper Michelle Betos spoke about what playing for NJ/NY means to the team after the tough loss to Kansas City last week. “Our veterans, our rookies, everyone’s fighting. Everyone’s putting in the work. Everyone’s believing, and I’m just proud because I think that’s what [New York City] is about – having a chip on your shoulder. We go into games, and we’re underdogs, and that’s a little bit of that blue collar [identity],” she said. While mathematically eliminated from the playoff picture, Betos emphasized how the club will continue to work and believe in themselves. She added, “The best is yet to come for this group and this club.”

A RIVALRY RENEWED

Gotham FC emerged victorious when the two sides met earlier this season. In a heated match on June 4th at Red Bull Arena Midge Purce notched the only tally of the game in the 21st minute, sending the NJ/NY side home with the win. Gotham FC will look to draw upon some of that energy as they head south, hoping to snap this losing streak as the NWSL season nears its end.

WHAT’S NEXT

After the match in Washington, Gotham FC returns home to Red Bull Arena for Latinx night against OL Reign on September 21st. Tickets to the match can be bought at GothamFC.com/Tickets.
