Three Gotham FC Players Selected to USWNT Training Camp Roster for December Friendlies

HARRISON, NJ (November 20, 2023) – NJ/NY Gotham FC today announced that reigning NWSL Champions Midge Purce, Lynn Williams, and Jenna Nighswonger have been named to the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) training camp roster for a pair of international friendlies against China PR in December.

Purce was named the NWSL Championship MVP for her stellar performance against OL Reign in the 2023 season finale. The forward contributed two impressive assists in the final to lead Gotham FC to its first NWSL Championship. Purce joined Lauren Holiday (2014, FCKC) as the only players with two assists in an NWSL final. Purce made 20 total appearances for Gotham FC in 2023, including 15 starts, five goals, and seven assists in all competitions.

Williams scored in the NWSL Championship game to help the club secure the 2-1 win. The goal was Williams’ second in a final and her fourth career playoff goal. In addition, she became the first player in league history to start in five finals. In recognition of her reliable performance throughout the regular season, Williams earned 2023 Best XI First Team honors. In 24 appearances for Gotham FC in all 2023 competitions, Williams recorded 10 goals and had three assists. She also led the league in shots with 62 and was second in the league in shots on goal with 36 in the regular season.

Nighswonger is selected as a midfielder for her first full national team training camp after a sensational rookie season in the NWSL. She continues to add to her impressive list of accolades in 2023 including being named the 2023 NWSL Rookie of the Year, Best XI Second Team, as well as earning six NWSL awards throughout the regular season. In all competitions with Gotham FC in 2023, the rookie started in 25 games and made 29 appearances, while notching five goals and two assists.

“I am very grateful and happy to have received my first call up,” said Nighswonger. “It’s been a goal of mine and I couldn’t have done it without Gotham FC.”

Both USWNT matches against China PR will be broadcasted on TNT in English and Universo and Peacock in Spanish. The match in Fort Lauderdale, FL at DRV PNK Stadium on Dec. 2 will begin at 3 p.m. ET. The match in Frisco, TX at Toyota Stadium on Dec. 5 will kick off at 8 p.m. ET.
