NJ/NY Gotham FC closes out a two game home stand this Sunday, August 15, against expansion side Racing Louisville FC. The match will be presented to Gotham FC fans by NJM. The action kicks off at 5:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed on Paramount+ (U.S.) and Twitch (international).

NJ/NY Gotham FC enters Sunday’s game on the heels of its first loss in an eight-game unbeaten streak after falling 0-1 to the North Carolina Courage. The lone goal of the match came in the 38th minute when Carson Pickett sent a ball into the box that connected with Jessica McDonald’s head. DiDi Haracic made the initial save, but Meredith Speck cleaned up the rebound for the goal. Despite the scoreline, the game played out evenly across the stat lines with Gotham FC finishing with 51% of the possession of the ball.

Budweiser Player of the Match Estelle Johnson turned in another impressive performance on the back line for Gotham FC. The center back played the full 90 minutes and ended the match with a passing accuracy of 86.5%. Additionally, Johnson made five clearances and interceptions, and won 80% of the duels she faced.

Racing Louisville FC is coming off a 3-1 victory at home over Kansas City. A late first-half goal from Ebony Salmon opened up the scoreboard, but Darian Jenkins was able to equalize late in stoppage time to keep the game level heading into the half. In the 55th minute, the recently acquired Danish international, Nadia Nadim, scored her first goal since returning to the NWSL to give Racing Louisville FC the lead. In the closing minutes of regulation, Cheyna Matthews scored her first goal with Louisville on a defensive miscue from Kansas City to solidify the 3-1 win.

Sunday’s match will be the first time these two teams meet in the regular season. The last time they met was on May 2 at Montclair State University Soccer Park during the NWSL Challenge Cup. Despite the match ending in a scoreless draw, the point was enough to send Gotham FC through to the Challenge Cup Final to face the Portland Thorns.

Head Coach Freya Coombe on the Upcoming Match:

This week our focus is on the quality of the performance. We failed to convert our possession into attacking chances last week against the North Carolina Courage and it’s important we attack with more numbers against Louisville. This week we have to keep a higher tempo in the attacking half and have greater player movement off the ball.”

Following Sunday’s match, Gotham FC will head to the Pacific Northwest for a two game road stretch. The team will first travel to Cheney Stadium to take on OL Reign on Saturday, August 21st, at 10:00 p.m. ET and then head south to the Rose City for a midweek match up against the Portland Thorns on Wednesday, August 25 at 10:30 p.m. ET. Single and group tickets are now on sale and pricing details can be found here.
