HARRISON, N.J. & CHICAGO – NJ/NY Gotham FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and CarMax, the nation’s largest buyer and seller of used cars, announced today a multi-year agreement to become the club’s exclusive auto retailer. The partnership comes in conjunction with an announcement that CarMax will serve as the Official Auto Retailer of the NWSL and presenting sponsor of the NWSL Shield.
As part of the agreement with Gotham FC, CarMax will serve as a presenting partner for the remainder of the 2022 season and be the title sponsor for Women’s Empowerment Night on July 31 when Gotham FC takes on the Houston Dash.
CarMax and Gotham will also collaborate on a content series titled, “On the Road with Gotham FC” and a fan engagement campaign entitled the #TheWaytheGameShouldBe, which will include enhanced gameday experiences. Some of these activations include an in-game premium seat upgrade, presenting pre-game fan fits and a women’s empowerment speaking series.
“We’re beyond excited to welcome CarMax to the Gotham FC family,” said Gotham Chief Business Officer Andrea Pagnanelli. “We look for partners who align with our purpose and companies that share our values. CarMax is dedicated to investing in women’s sports and I cannot wait to work together to give our players and fans the gameday experience they deserve.”

“CarMax is committed to the future of women’s sports and we’re proud to expand our investments to include both the NWSL and Gotham FC, our first partnership with an NWSL club,” said Sarah Lane, VP, Marketing at CarMax. “Gotham has seen exciting growth and we’re honored to help shine a spotlight on its incredible athletes and the positive impact the club is making on fans and in the community.”
As title sponsor of the NWSL Shield, awarded to the club with the best record at the conclusion of the regular season, CarMax has committed to increasing the bonus pool awarded to the winning team. Beginning this season, the bonus provided by CarMax to the NWSL Shield winners will increase to $10,000 per player, up from $5,000 in previous years.
