HARRISON, NJ: Kristen Edmonds, a defender from Metuchen, New Jersey who has been a standout player in the NWSL since 2014 after starring collegiately at Rutgers, is coming home. NJ/NY Gotham FC announced today the signing of Edmonds to a two-year contract.

“I am so excited to make this move to Gotham FC and I am looking forward to this new challenge with this club,” said Edmonds. “I’ve worked really hard for a long time and I’ve fought for this dream with a lot of passion all over the world and this country. It all started in New Jersey, and to come full circle with my family in the stands for all of our home games is something super special to me. I’m thankful for this opportunity and eager to get started with the new staff and my new teammates!”

Edmonds started 44 games over the last two seasons for the Kansas City Current, including all three playoff matches in the Current’s run to the NWSL Final in 2022. In the 2021 season, Edmonds led the team in starts (21) and minutes played (1,721) and served as captain for six matches.

Prior to Kansas City, Edmonds played five seasons for the Orlando Pride, scoring 10 goals in 72 appearances. In her first season with the club, she led Orlando in scoring and assists. Edmonds started her NWSL career with the Western New York Flash, making 29 starts in 31 appearances over two seasons.

Edmonds began her professional career in Iceland, leading Stjarnin to the league title and the Icelandic Women’s Cup Championship in 2011. She then played for WFC Rossiyanka of the Russian Premier League, gaining invaluable experience competing with the club in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Edmonds starred at Rutgers University from 2005 – 2008. In her freshman year, she became the first rookie to lead the Scarlet Knights in scoring since Carli Lloyd. As a senior, she started all 22 games, scoring five goals and adding six assists.

“Kristen is an outstanding veteran NWSL defender whose experience, leadership, and dedication to team play make her a key addition to the club we are building at Gotham FC,” said GM and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West. “We are delighted to bring her home to New Jersey.
