Soon after she signed her new, long-term deal with Gotham FC, Victoria Pickett took some time to tell us about some personal and team goals, why she loves the NJ-NY area and is dedicated to helping in the community, and her personal message to fans.

As the New Year approaches and with your contract signed, do you have any personal and team goals for 2023 that you can share?

I'm really excited for this year because I see this as a new chapter for Gotham FC. I know I can speak on behalf of the team in saying that we're going to give everything we have for our fans every single game. If we keep pushing hard, we're going to achieve a lot of success this upcoming season. We're all hungry and we're going to push for a playoff spot and keep building each game. As for my personal goals, I'm really hoping to get back in with the Canadian National team, and I know with the support of Gotham FC, I'll be able to get some more opportunities to represent Canada. I also really want to focus on my time here with Gotham – getting more shots off, completing more final third passes, and just trying to be the best teammate I can be.

How was your experience living in the NJ-NY area and what is it about this region that has you excited to call it home for at least the next three NWSL seasons?

I absolutely love this area. New York and New Jersey have such an awesome mix of everything I could want. There’s a lot of nature. We’re close to one of the biggest cities in the world, right by the ocean, and I’m much closer to my family. There's an endless amount of things to do. Sports, concerts, nature, food – there's so many things to experience here and I'm so excited to really settle in and make this my new home.

You’ve had an amazing journey these last few years – achieving so much in college soccer and in the Canadian National Team program and the NWSL while also persevering through injuries. Who are some of the people who have been supportive to you on the road to this great new contract with Gotham FC?

It's definitely been an exciting journey for me, and I can say I'm only here because of the people in my life that have supported me through it all. There are so many people to thank, but definitely my family. Anytime I doubt myself, they're there to pick me up and get me through any adversities I may face. I'm always very appreciative of their love and support. Also very thankful for my college coaches and teammates. They were with me through the highs and lows of my soccer career and they helped me get through a lot. I'm also thankful for the KC Current for helping me start out my professional career. And of course, I feel very grateful to have the trust and commitment of Gotham FC behind me. I'm very thankful to have a club like Gotham be so invested in me. I just want Gotham and its fans to know that the feeling is reciprocated. I promise to give everything I have and put my all into this club. I'm very excited to sign this three-year contract and continue to help Gotham grow.

We saw your tremendous support of the community organization Global FC in Kansas City by giving your time and utilizing your platform to raise them up. How would you describe the experience of working with Global FC, and do you hope to be involved in similar efforts with Gotham FC?

My Global FC family is so special to me, so I'm glad you mentioned them! They are such an amazing organization that I was very blessed to be a part of. The work they did for the Kansas City community is nothing short of incredible. Everyone who is a part of Global FC has a special place in my heart and I'm really hoping to apply what I learned with them to the NJ/NY area. With the metropolitan area being so populous, there are many volunteer opportunities and I really hope to make a difference here. I know if I need help in finding some opportunities, I can turn to Sabrina Flores. She's got such a big heart and she's done so much for this community, so I hope to lend a helping hand!

When you’re not training and playing, what are some of the things you like to do?

I love doing anything outdoors, which is why I think NJ/NY is the perfect fit for me. I love the hiking trails here and there's so much nature in Jersey. I also love going to concerts. I went to the Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan to see one of my favorite Canadian bands (The Sheepdogs) and it was so much fun! I've also really taken to the sports here. I've already gone to a couple of Yankees, Devils and Rangers games, and I'm hoping to check out the basketball scene – especially the New York Liberty!

Any personal message to Gotham FC fans?

My message to the fans: get excited for a new era at Gotham FC! The team has been very active in the offseason and the pieces we have here are going to come together and we're going to dominate this year. We're ready to put women's footy on the map in NJ/NY and I'm so excited to get to know you more and see you all at Red Bull. So let's get after it!   #YERRRR
