HARRISON, NJ (May 25, 2023) – NJ/NY Gotham FC will look to maintain its top spot in the NWSL standings this weekend when the club faces the Washington Spirit with U.S. Women’s National Team forwards Trinity Rodman and Ashley Hatch at Audi Field in Washington D.C. on Sunday, May 28 (6. p.m. ET, Paramount+).

Through eight matches, Gotham FC sits in first place with 16 points; one point ahead of the Washington Spirit, who sit in a three-way tie for second place with 15 points but trail the Portland Thorns and San Diego Wave based on goal differential.

Sunday’s match will be the second meeting between the two sides this year, but will be the first of the regular season. On April 15, the two sides faced off in a UKG Challenge Cup match that saw Gotham FC secure a 1-0 victory off the strength of a clean sheet by goalkeeper Mandy Haught and a Lynn Williams game-winning goal.

Williams will look to continue her stellar strength of form that includes five goals in eight games, as well as league recognition as a two-time Bud Light Player of the Week and NWSL Best XI honoree for March/April.

The game will also mark USWNT icon Kelley O’Hara’s return to face her former club in Washington D.C. for the first time since signing with Gotham FC as a free agent during the offseason.

Gotham FC will return to Red Bull Arena on Sunday, June 4 to face Alex Morgan and the San Diego Wave. The match, which will serve as the club’s annual Pride Night celebration, has already surpassed more than 11,000 tickets sold – a new club record.
