HARRISON, NJ (Thursday, August 31, 2023) – NJ/NY Gotham FC of the National Women’s Soccer League today announced that Brazilian National Team defender Bruninha has signed a new contract to remain with the club through the 2025 season.

“I am thrilled to continue my career at Gotham FC and to be a part of the great future that the club is building here,” said Bruninha. “The inspiring environment encourages me to give my all every day in training and at games, and I am enjoying life both on and off the field in New Jersey and New York.”  

The skillful young defender – who initially joined the club on a two-year deal in Aug. 2022 – has enjoyed a breakout campaign this season. In May at only age 20, Bruninha became the youngest player ever in club history to score in NWSL competition, and she did it in back-to-back games. Bruninha scored her first Gotham FC goal against OL Reign on May 21 and then scored in the immediate next match against the Washington Spirit on May 28. Striking with precision, both finishes came on her only two regular season shots on goal to date. 

“Bruninha has understood really well our playing style and has adapted fantastically to it. She is definitely someone who can help the growth of the club and is a pleasure to work with her everyday,” said Gotham FC head coach Juan Carlos Amoros. “She has great skill on the ball, and she is strong in 1v1 defending. She can read the game well, and has the ability to be a dangerous part of our attack. She is an exciting player for our fans. We are delighted to see her continue with the club for years to come.”

Now age 21, Bruninha has appeared in 16 games, earning 14 starts for Gotham FC across all NWSL competitions. Her growing list of accolades includes NWSL Bud Light Player of the Week for Week 9, NWSL Save of the Week for Week 10 (shared with Gotham FC goalkeeper Abby Smith), and NWSL Best XI for the month of May.

“As we continue building on the long-term vision for Gotham FC to perennially be among the top teams in the league, Bruninha is a crucial and consistent piece of maintaining a strong defensive unit,” said Gotham FC General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West. “Her skill and international experience are important elements that contribute to the solid core of strong players around her.” 

On the global stage, Bruninha made her FIFA Women’s World Cup debut appearance this summer in Brazil’s 4-0 win over Panama in the Group Stage. She has earned six total caps and four starts for the senior team, dishing out an assist against Argentina in a friendly on Sept. 17, 2021 and an assist against the U.S. Women’s National Team in the 2023 SheBelieves Cup on Feb. 22.

Prior to earning a call-up to the senior team, Bruninha was no stranger to the international scene. The defender was a member of the Brazil squad that won the 2022 Campeonato Sudamericano Femenino Sub-20 (U-20 South American Championship), and she played a pivotal role as captain last year of Brazil’s impressive performance to finish in third place at the U-20 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Gotham FC renova contrato de Bruninha, zagueira da Seleção Brasileira, até 2025.

A jogadora de 21 anos que participou da Copa do Mundo Feminina da FIFA marcou em jogos consecutivos pelo Gotham FC nesta temporada.

HARRISON, NJ (quinta-feira, 30 de agosto de 2023) – NJ/NY Gotham FC da National Women’s Soccer League anunciou hoje que a zagueira da Seleção Brasileira, Bruninha, assinou um novo contrato para permanecer no clube até a temporada de 2025.
 
“Estou muito feliz em poder continuar a minha carreira no Gotham FC e por fazer parte de tudo que o clube está planejando para o futuro aqui”, disse Bruninha. “O ambiente inspirador me incentiva a dar tudo de mim todos os dias nos treinos e nos jogos, e eu estou aproveitando a vida dentro e fora do campo em Nova Jersey e Nova York.”
 
A habilidosa jovem zagueira – que iniciou no clube com um contrato de dois anos em Agosto de 2022 – teve uma campanha de destaque nesta temporada. Em maio, com apenas 20 anos, Bruninha se tornou a jogadora mais jovem da história do clube a marcar nas competições da NWSL, e fez isso em jogos consecutivos. Bruninha marcou seu primeiro gol pelo Gotham FC contra o OL Reign no dia 21 de Maio e depois marcou na partida seguinte contra o Washington Spirit no dia 28 de Maio.
 
“Bruninha é uma peça fundamental da nossa equipe e da nossa defesa”, disse o treinador do Gotham FC, Juan Carlos Amoros. “Ela tem muita habilidade com a bola e é forte na defesa 1x1. Ela consegue ler bem o jogo e tem a habilidade de ser uma parte perigosa do nosso ataque. Estamos animados em vê-la continuar no clube nos próximos anos.”
 
Agora com 21 anos, Bruninha disputou 16 jogos, sendo 14 titular pelo Gotham FC em todas as competições da NWSL. Sua lista de prêmios inclui NWSL Player of the Week for Week 9, NWSL Save of the Week for Week 10 (compartilhando com a goleira do Gotham FC, Abby Smith) e NWSL Best XI no mês de maio.
 
“À medida que continuamos a construir a visão de longo prazo do Gotham FC de estar sempre entre os melhores times da liga, Bruninha é uma peça crucial e consistente para manter uma unidade defensiva forte”, disse a gerente geral e chefe de operações de futebol do Gotham FC, Yael Averbuch. “Sua habilidade e experiência internacional são elementos importantes que contribuem para o núcleo sólido de jogadoras fortes ao seu redor.”
 
No cenário global, Bruninha fez sua estreia na Copa do Mundo Feminina da FIFA neste verão, na vitória do Brasil por 4 a 0 sobre o Panamá na fase de grupos. Ela somou seis partidas pela seleção principal e quatro partidas como titular, dando uma assistência contra a Argentina em um amistoso em 17 de setembro de 2021 e uma assistência contra a Seleção Feminina dos EUA na Copa SheBelieves de 2023 no dia 22 de fevereiro.
 
Antes de ser convocada para a seleção principal, Bruninha conhecia bem o cenário internacional. A zagueira integrou a seleção brasileira que conquistou o Campeonato Sudamericano Femenino Sub-20 de 2022 (Campeonato Sul-Americano Sub-20) e desempenhou um papel fundamental como capitã no ano passado no impressionante desempenho do Brasil ao terminar em terceiro lugar na Copa do Mundo Feminina sub-20 da FIFA.
