SAN ANTONIO (Friday, October 25, 2024) - NJ/NY Gotham FC lost to the Kansas City Current in the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup Final in San Antonio on Friday night. Despite the scoreline, Gotham FC dominated across different offensic possession (62%-38%) and passes in the final third (143-72).

Both teams eventually settled into the match, with Gotham FC establishing its signature possession style and high press. 

Kansas City struck first in the 25th minute, after forward Temwa Chawinga broke loose for a one-on-one and scored. Then, Chawinga buried her second in the 37th minute to bring the score to 2-0. 

Gotham FC closed the first half leading in possession (62%-38%) as well as passes in the final third (61-45). 

The club continued to push forward for opportunities. In the 43rd minute, forward Ella Stevens did some craft footwork inside the box to shake her defender. She then fired a shot, but the shot was deflected by a Kansas City defender. 

In the 69th minute, midfielder Delanie Sheehan played in a corner kick toward the back post, where forward Sabrina Flores headed it on frame. However, the Current goalkeeper collected it. 

Gotham FC will finish out the regular season by traveling to face the Utah Royals on Nov. 1 at 9:30 p.m. ET on NWSL+.
