HARRISON, NJ (Tuesday, December 24, 2024) - NJ/NY Gotham FC today announced that the club has acquired Ghanaian midfielder Stella Nyamekye (nyah-meh-che) from Dreamz Ladies FC of the Ghana Women’s Premier League in exchange for an undisclosed transfer fee, pending receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Nyamekye has signed a three-year contract through 2027, with a mutual option for 2028.

“I'm beyond excited to be joining Gotham FC and stepping into a new chapter of my career,” said Nyamekye. “I can’t wait to play on a team that has been so successful over recent seasons and alongside some incredible players that I have watched from afar. I’m ready to work hard and embrace the challenge ahead. See you all soon!”

Nyamekye, 19 years old, joins the club after playing her club football in Ghana, where she has been with Dreamz Ladies FC since 2021.

“Stella is an exciting player and her ceiling is very high,” said Gotham FC General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West. “Her success this past year has been fantastic and we are happy to have her here in NJ/NY.”

Earlier this year, Nyamekye captained the Ghana U-20 Women’s National Team at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, starting in all three group-stage matches. She collected two goals and one assist in the competition, in addition to leading the team in most attempts on goal (22). On February 19, 2023, Nyamekye made her senior national team debut in a 3-0 win against Benin.
