Andy Spence joins Gotham FC as an assistant head coach, bringing a wealth of experience from both domestic and international women’s soccer. A highly respected figure in the game, Spence has spent more than two decades developing elite talent and competing at the highest levels of the game.
Before arriving at Gotham FC, Spence served as an assistant coach for the Canada Women’s National Team. Appointed in 2022, he played a pivotal role in the team’s preparation for major international tournaments, including the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. He was the interim head coach for Canada during the 2024 Summer Olympics, leading the team to the quarterfinals of the knockout tournament.

Prior to his tenure with Canada, Spence was a leader with multiple roles at Everton FC, where he played a key role in shaping the club’s women’s program for over a decade. He served in multiple coaching positions, including head coach and academy director, helping Everton consistently compete in England’s top flight while mentoring several players who went on to excel internationally. Spence also gained valuable experience working with England’s youth national teams, serving as an assistant coach for the U-19 and U-21 squads.

Now with Gotham FC, Spence adds his expertise and leadership to the coaching staff as the club gears up for the 2025 NWSL season.

Spence holds a BSc in Science and Football from Liverpool John Moores University that he earned in 2005. He has also obtained several prestigious coaching qualifications, including the UEFA A License (2011), the UEFA Youth Diploma (2018) and an LMA Diploma in Football Management from the University of Liverpool (2020).
