Richard Gunney

Rich Gunney is an accomplished practitioner and experienced architect within the NWSL. With a decade of experience in the NWSL he has been an integral part of Gotham's Scouting department since November 2022 and was appointed the clubs first Director of Scouting and Roster Development.

In collaboration with management and ownership he has played a central role in building the roster that delivered the clubs two NWSL championships and the club’s first Concacaf W Champions Cup title.

Leading the club's scouting and player recruitment department Gunney has spearheaded an important blend of data‑informed with expert‑led approach, creating a recruitment model that has become a benchmark across the NWSL. His work has helped Gotham identify, acquire, and develop elite talent from the NCAA, NWSL, and global player markets.

Before joining Gotham FC, Gunney built a distinguished career across the NWSL in coaching scouting, player recruitment and development. He brings extensive experience from two decades operating in the elite game, including leadership roles in professional and international settings.

Experienced in coach education, youth development and global player identification this broad background and expertise provides him with a unique and holistic understanding of the elite player pathway and the demands of the elite professional game.

During his tenure as Gotham FC’s Director of Scouting & Roster Development, Gunney has orchestrated and implemented the club’s scouting strategy and infrastructure, integrating live evaluation, video analysis, global tracking, and collaborative decision making. His frameworks have strengthened the club’s immediate rise, long‑term roster strategy and future succession planning.
