Gotham FC (17-5-7, 58 points) can clinch the club’s first NWSL Shield, given to the league’s regular season champion, on Sunday at Sports Illustrated Stadium. The first-place team kicks off at 5 p.m. ET against Utah with a three-point advantage on second-place San Diego, which plays at Bay FC. Gotham FC would secure its fifth trophy since 2023 with a win or a draw against Utah – or with a San Diego loss or draw at Bay FC.
Regardless of Sunday’s results, Gotham FC is in line to host both the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the NWSL Playoffs as the club already secured a top-two seed in the NWSL’s postseason bracket. The NWSL Championship, presented by Google Pixel, is set for Nov. 21 at Audi Field in Washington.
The reigning NWSL champions, Gotham FC has already set the club record this year for most points in a single season while tying the highest win total. Coach Juan Carlos Amorós’s team has been in first place in the NWSL standings for 12 consecutive weeks, thanks to 16 wins and five draws in 24 matches after starting the season slow with a 1-2-2 record.
Gotham FC qualified for the NWSL Playoffs for a club-record fourth straight season, though this is the first year the club has been seeded higher than third. The team won the 2023 and 2025 NWSL titles as the lowest-seeded team in the bracket.
