HARRISON, NJ (Friday, June 21, 2024) – NJ/NY Gotham FC will host the Washington Spirit on Sunday, June 23 at Red Bull Arena (1:30 p.m. ET, ESPN). The match will feature a clash of two of the top four teams in the table, with Gotham FC sitting in fourth with 27 points (8-2-3) and the Spirit in third with 28 points (9-3-1).
Going into the weekend, Gotham FC is looking to continue its unbeaten streak as well as its win streak, as the club is unbeaten in nine matches and has won five straight. The club is 7-0-2 during this run. Additionally, Gotham FC goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger extended her club-record unbeaten streak for a goalkeeper to nine matches and picked up her seventh winon Wednesday night.
On Wednesday, Gotham FC picked up three points in a 2-1 win against San Diego Wave FC. Midfielder Rose Lavelle opened the scoring in stoppage time of the first half with a shot from distance that bent just out of the goalkeeper’s reach and into the goal. Later, rookie defender Maycee Bell scored her first NWSL goal at the death to secure the win for the club. Bell took an impressive touch around her mark, then flicked a shot into goal.
Washington also last played San Diego on Saturday, June 15. After going down a goal early in the match, Spirit rookie forward Croix Bethune scored in stoppage time to steal a point. The Spirit has not lost in five games and has won four straight. Sunday will be the second time the east coast rivals square off this regular season, as the Spirit picked up three points against Gotham FC at Audi Field on April 20.
