HARRISON, NJ (Wednesday, November 1, 2023) – After a historic quarterfinal match last week, NJ/NY Gotham FC looks to continue its postseason run as the club travels to play the Portland Thorns in the semifinals of the 2023 NWSL Playoffs at Providence Park on Sunday, Nov. 5 (7 p.m. ET, CBS Sports Network).
The club made history in more ways than one in the quarterfinal. Gotham FC defeated the North Carolina Courage 2-0, in a match where eight players made their NWSL Playoffs debuts. Among the postseason debutants, midfielder Delanie Sheehan scored her first career goal at the perfect moment in the 45th minute, when she shook off a defender and toe-poked the ball past the goalkeeper for the 1-0 Gotham FC lead. To seal the game, midfielder Yazmeen Ryan scored the second goal in stoppage time from a smooth feed from forward Lynn Williams. With the assist, Williams notched her third career playoff assist to tie the league record.
Gotham FC and Portland have met twice in the regular season, splitting results with each side earning three points on its own home field. In July, the two clubs played at Red Bull Arena, where Gotham FC defeated the Thorns 2-1 with goals from midfielder Allie Long and forward Katie Stengel. Most recently, Gotham FC fell to the Thorns 1-0 at Providence Park after a Hina Sugita header in the 54th minute.
On Sunday, Gotham FC and the Portland Thorns will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. ET from Providence Park.
Locally, Gotham FC will host two watch parties for fans in New Jersey and New York. Fans can catch the action at Crystal Lake Bar in Brooklyn (647 Grand St), NY or Hudson Hall in Jersey City, NJ (364 Marin Blvd). The night will be filled with festivities and giveaways at each location.
