HARRISON, NJ (January 23, 2024) – NJ/NY Gotham FC today announced the club has acquired goalkeeper Cassie Miller from the Kansas City Current in exchange for $70,000 in allocation money as well as a $30,000 intra-league transfer fee.

“I am very excited to join Gotham for the upcoming season,” said Miller. “Gotham is a really special place to be right now in the league and I am excited to help build on last season’s championship.”

Miller will be joining Gotham FC after playing with the Current for the last two seasons. In the 2023 regular season, Miller started and appeared in 10 matches, recording 900 minutes, four shutouts, and a 1.30 goal against average. In last year’s Challenge Cup, she started two games and recorded shutouts in both games. The goalkeeper led the club in shutouts for all competitions with six shutouts.

“Cassie is a great addition to our goalkeeper union,” said Gotham FC Head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós. “I am very excited to work with her this season, and we look forward to building on the success of last season.”

Before being traded to Kansas City, Miller played a season with the Chicago Red Stars. In 2021, Miller was the first goalkeeper in the NWSL to record two shutouts in her first two playoff appearances en route to the 2021 NWSL Championship match. She also led Chicago in shutouts in all competitions with seven in the 2021 season.

“Cassie adds tremendous competition to our goalkeeper department and already has great experience in the league in her young career,” said Gotham FC General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West.

Before embarking on her professional career, Miller played collegiately at Florida State University, where she had a historic career. In her redshirt freshman season, she set an NCAA record 19 shutouts in 2014, as well as a school record of 24 wins. She also helped the Seminoles win the 2014 NCAA National Championship in the same season. By the end of her senior season, Miller set a Florida State record of 48 career shutouts.
